7/5/2023 0 Comments Deponia game play![]() ![]() In general, modern adventure games seem to have done away with the dead ends of the past, because while many people like a challenge, most of us don’t want to get more than halfway through the game and have to restart because we didn’t pick up that one dumb item that was barely mentioned hours ago. There are also free fan remakes of the first three King’s Quest games, made by AGD Interactive, which have no dead ends (but still include player death, because it wouldn’t be a Sierra-inspired game without it) and creatively flesh out the rather thin stories of the originals in a way that still feels true to them. □) Some others that I’ve liked or heard good things about include: Tormentum - Dark Sorrow, Kathy Rain, Beneath a Steel Sky, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, The Longest Journey, Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders, The Forgotten City, The Journey Down, and Detective Grimoire and its sequel, Tangle Tower. (I almost said “there’s no death”, but given that the Blackwell series is about a spirit medium and ghosts - that wouldn’t quite be true. You can’t go wrong with anything from Wadjet Eye’s library, including the Blackwell series, Primordia, Resonance and Puzzle Bots (yep, I am pimping that last one again □) there’s no player death or dead ends, and the puzzles are decently challenging without being obtuse.
